The state of Virginia has 65 colleges and universities. Of these, there are 5 Virginia medical schools. Four of them, East Virginia Medical School, University of Virginia School of Medicine, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, and Virginia Tech Carilion School of medicine all offer a traditional M.D. degree. One school, Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, offers the D.O. degree.
East Virginia Medical School
East Virginia Medical School has been granting degrees since 1973. In addition to medical doctors, they also train art therapists, surgical assistants, and physician assistants.

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine is an urban medical school which was founded almost 200 year ago-1838! This was the first of the Virginia medical schools.
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine- Degrees Offered
This school offers a M.D. degree as well as several dual degree options, including the M.D./M.H.A. (Master’s of Health Administration), M.D./M.P.H. (Master’s of Public Health), and M.D./P.H.D.
The M.D./P.H.D. program is for future physician-scientists. This program includes full tuition remission as well as a living stipend for all students.
They also offer a pre-medical master’s degree program to help students get into medical school.

This school was founded in 2003 due to a study which found that Virginia had a shortage of rural doctors.

Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine is the only Virginia medical school that offers a D.O. degree.
They also partner with Virginia Tech to offer several dual degrees. These options include D.O./M.B.A. (Master’s of Business Administration), or D.O./M.P.H. (Master’s of Public Health).
