There are a lot of colleges in Ohio, there are also a lot of medical schools. Most of the states I have analyzed have between one and four medical schools. Ohio has six! Five of them offer the MD degree: Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Northeast Ohio University of Medicine, Ohio State University College of Medicine, Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University, University of Toledo College of Medicine, and Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine

Case Western University is located in Cleveland, Ohio. Case Western Medical School was founded in 1843!

Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine-Degrees Offered:

Case Western offers the MD degree in three different and distinct tracks: the College track, the University track, and the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) track (which ends up with a MD/PhD).

The University track is a four year program which aims to build physician-scholars. The students in this program are able to obtain a second degree including: Master of Arts in BioEthics, Master’s of Public Health, Master of Science in Applied Anatomy, Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering, Master of Science in Biomedical Investigation, or Ph.D. in Health Services Research.

The College track seeks to build physician-investigators. This is a five-year program in which the student graduates with an MD with Special Qualifications in Biomedical Research.  These students additionally are able to obtain a second degree from the list above.

Last is the MSTP track. This is an eight year program which ends with getting an MD and a PhD. This is an NIH funded program, meaning most students will have their education subsidized.

University of Cincinnati is located in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This school offers the MD degree as well as several combination programs, including MD/PhD, MD/MBA, and MD/MS in Nutrition.

University of Cincinnati College of Medicine-School Rankings:

Northeast Ohio University of Medicine

Northeast Ohio University is located in Rootstown, Ohio.

This school offers a traditional MD degree program. they also offer a combined BS/MD program for highly qualified high school seniors. This program takes six to seven years to complete.

University of Cincinnati College of Medicine-Important Admissions Information:

Most applications come from students in high school, therefore they need high school prerequisites. However, about 20% of students here are traditional and thus can apply via AMCAS.

Ohio State University College of Medicine

Ohio State University is located in Columbus, Ohio.

This school offers the MD degree as well as MD/PhD. They additionally have a post-baccalaureate program for people who need to improve their applications for medical school.

  • Organic Chemistry - one year of an organic chemistry series that includes a laboratory.
  • Physics - one year with a laboratory.

University of Toledo College of Medicine

The University of Toledo is located in Toledo, Ohio.

University of Toledo College of Medicine: Degrees Offered

There are a variety of dual degrees available to University of Toledo students, the most common are: MD/Ph.D. - Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences, MD/MSBS - Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences, MD/MPH- Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health, Certificate in Pathology.

They additionally have a BS/MD program for high school graduates. This program allows you to get a Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering.

University of Toledo College of Medicine-Important Admissions Information:

AMCAS applications from June 1 through November 1.

The minimum pre-medical course requirements are: one year of biological sciences, one year of general chemistry with labs, one year of organic chemistry with labs, one year of physics, one year of mathematics and one year of college English.

Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Ohio University offers the only DO degree in Ohio. This school is located in Athens, Ohio.

Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine: Degrees Offered

This school offers the DO degree as well as several combined degree programs.

They are one of only five schools in the country that offer a combined DO/PhD degree. This degree also includes a stipend as well as tuition remission for the latter years of the program.

You can also get M.H.A (Masters of Health Administration), MD/M.P.H (Masters of Public Health), MD/M.B.A. (Masters of Business Administration), M.A. and M.S.
