There are 60 colleges and universities in Kentucky. Of these, three have medical schools. These are: University of Kentucky College of Medicine, University of Louisville College of Medicine, and University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The University of Kentucky School of Medicine
The University of Kentucky is one of only four medical schools in the US which offer a tuition guarantee program. This allows students to better plan financially for the cost o four years of medical school. They are opening a $700 million+ hospital in 2011.

The University of Kentucky offers a M.D. degree as well as a few combined degrees, including: for very highly qualified high school graduates, a seven year B.S./M.D., the M.D./P.H.D. for future medical scientists or academics, M.D./M.P.H. (Masters of Public Health) which has several concentrations to choose from, including: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Behavior, Health Services Management, and Environmental Health; M.D./M.B.A. (Masters of Business Administration).

Prerequisites
A major goal of undergraduate study should be intellectual development through the in-depth pursuit of some area of knowledge: humanities, social sciences or natural sciences. No specific course of study is required; however, completion of the following courses or their equivalent constitute the minimal requirements for admission:
Two semesters of biology with laboratories
Two semesters of general chemistry with laboratories
Two semesters of organic chemistry with laboratories
Two semesters of physics which include laboratory work
Two semesters of English with emphasis on communication skills

The University of Louisville School of Medicine Degrees Offered
They offer a standard M.D. degree as well as these dual degree options: M.D./M.A. in Bioethics and Medical Humanities, M.D./M.B.A. (Masters of Business Administration), M.D./M.P.H. (Masters of Public Health), M.D./M.Sc. (Masters of Science) in Clinical Investigation, and M.D./P.H.D.

June 1 is the earliest date to apply.
August 1 is the deadline for early decision applicants.
October 15 is the deadline for regular applicants.
BIOLOGY: This requirement may be fulfilled by one semester of cellular biology with lab and one semester of organismic biology with lab. Survey courses in anatomy and physiology cannot be substituted for this requirement.
CHEMISTRY: This requirement would ordinarily be met by a one-year course in general inorganic chemistry with lab and a one-year course in organic chemistry with lab. The course in organic chemistry should cover all of the major categories of organic compounds.
PHYSICS: A one-year course in general physics with lab, including mechanics, electricity, heat, light and sound, is required of all applicants. Specialized courses in subdisciplines cannot be substituted for any part of this requirement.
MATHEMATICS: Entering medical students must have at least one year of mathematics at the college level or one semester of calculus(Calculus is recommended).
ENGLISH: Prospective medical students are encouraged to take English courses beyond the one-year minimum requirement. Additional courses designed to increase speed and comprehension are suggested, for slow readers.

The University of Pikeville Kentucky School of Osteopathic Medicine
The University of Pikeville Kentucky Schools of Osteopathic Medicine is the 19th school offering a degree of Osteopathic medicine in the United States. This is a four year degree which is comparable to the M.D. degree. DO degree recipients have full physician practice rights and can serve as primary physicians or specialty care doctors.
